2012 SC Book Festival

May 18-20th

I’m excited to be a panel member at the 2012 SC Book Festival, May 18-20, at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.  The event features over 70 award-winning authors, an array of exhibitors, and fantastic presentations. It should be a wonderful event for both readers and authors.

I plan to attend Pat Conroy’s  keynote presentation and visit Cocky’s Reading Express booth. On Sunday at noon, I will be participating on a romance panel along with fellow award-winning romance writers Kieran Kramer and Rae Renzi, as well as moderator Paula Benson.  A book signing follows the presentation.

Get Lost in a Story – Blogging with Donnell Ann Bell on May 10th

Join me on May 10 when I talk with Donnell Ann Bell on the blog Get Lost In A Story. Get Lost In A Story is a site hosted by several award-winning, debut authors as a means of introducing their readers to other writers. I met Donnell through Goodreads  after reading her best-selling novel The Past Came Hunting—a Golden Heart winner and great romantic suspense. Her novel continues to win awards and her days are filled with writing her next novel, but she still finds time to offer encouragement and support to other writers.

Have You Written a Romance Novel? Check Out This Contest.

Writing a romance novel can have its ups and downs. Some people will love it and others will hate it—just like any other genre. Today, chick lit can be a romance with the traditional happily-ever-after ending or a serious novel where romance is just a small part of the story.  I prefer the happily-ever-after. Actually, I read a great variety of chick lit, but I always reread the happy stories.

If you’re a chick lit author looking for feedback from people who understand the genre, enter the 8th Annual Get Your Stiletto in the Door Contest. Every entrant receives score sheets from four first-round judges. The score sheets are informative and supportive and will help you refine your manuscript. Plus, if you’re lucky enough to make it to the final round, the sponsor of the contest—ChickLit Writers of the World, an online chapter of Romance Writers of America—has an amazing group of successful agents, editors, and e-publishers who serve as the final round judges. Judges from Penguin, Harlequin, St. Martin’s Press, and Ashley Grayson Literary Agency are just a few of the publishers and agencies represented.

Thanks to the 49,000

Forty-nine has been my favorite number since my brother began calling me 49. The reason? I was an awkward, skinny kid and weighed only 49 pounds for a ridiculously long time. For years, my big brother told anyone who would listen that I weighed only 49 pounds—long after I’d passed that threshold. He thought it was hilarious; I was mortified. With time, the number name became one of affection. I still sign my letters to him with a 49.

This weekend, 49,000 became my new favorite number—though I don’t think I’ll adopt it as my new name. In just five days, over 49,000 people downloaded my novel Shades of Gray, bumping it to Number One on the Amazon Best Sellers in free Kindle ebooks and Number One in paid Romantic Suspense ebooks.

Over 20,000 Readers in Four Days

With one day left on the free Kindle promotion of Shades of Gray, over 20,000 readers have ordered my book, pushing the novel to number one on Amazon’s Best Sellers lists in both Contemporary Romance and Romantic Suspense. Thanks to all the readers out there who ordered my book!

Happy International Women’s Day! Hope it is a great day for women everywhere.

Like most of the world, I received virtual flowers on my Google page today. I wanted to join in the celebration, so I decided to offer my book for free on Kindle this weekend. Why should women have only one day of celebration?

Stone Mountain Book Clubs

I was honored last month when two Stone Mountain, Georgia, book clubs combined their January meeting and invited me to discuss my novel, Shades of Gray.  Hosted by Kathy Rhinehart in her beautiful Stone Mountain home, the evening was filled with wine, discussions, and wonderful feedback.  One of the attendants, Debbie Weiss, featured Shades of Gray in her Women’s Book Review website—a great website to discover new books. Book Signing at Charlie Mack Salon

I recently discovered Charlie Mack Salon in the heart of Lexington, South Carolina.  Not only is it a great place for hair care, the salon frequently opens its doors after hours for a Girls’ Night Out.  The special nights feature events just for women.  In February, I was invited to attend one of these wonderful evenings and sign copies of my novel Shades of Gray.  I had a wonderful time meeting everyone that night and hope they have enjoyed their books.  You should check out their beauty secrets the next Girls’ Night Out.

NABE Pinnacle Book Achievement Award

Shades of Gray received a North American Book Dealers Exchange (NABE) Book Achievement Award for Best Book in the Category of Romance for Fall 2011. For 27 years, the NABE has presented Pinnacle Book Awards quarterly to outstanding books by its members.
